What are the Olivier Awards with Mastercard?

The Olivier Awards are run by Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and are the most prestigious theatre awards in the UK. For full information about the awards, see the “About The Awards” section.

When are the Olivier Awards this year?

This year, the Olivier Awards will be held on Sunday 2 April at the Royal Albert Hall.

How are winners and nominees decided?

The Olivier Awards are judged by four separate panels. For further details visit the “How The Winners Are Chosen” page.

Who is eligible for nomination for an award for 2023?

Any new production that opened between 23 February 2022 to 14 February 2023 in a theatre represented in membership of Society of London Theatre is eligible for consideration for the Olivier Awards 2023 with Mastercard, provided it ran for the minimum amount of performance required for that category.

How many awards are there and who is nominated?

The awards include 26 categories, although they are not all given each year: 21 for theatre, two for opera, two for dance, one for productions presented by SOLT’s (Society of London Theatre) Affiliate members. Society of London Theatre also presents a Special Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as four Industry Recognition Awards presented before the ceremony.

What does an Olivier Award look like?

The bronze statue portrays a young Laurence Olivier as Henry V at the Old Vic in 1937. It was commissioned by SOLT from the sculptor Harry Franchetti and weighs 1.6kg.

Who was Laurence Olivier?

Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) was an actor, director and founder of the National Theatre Company. In 1984 Olivier agreed to give his name to the awards. Visit the Laurence Olivier page for a full biography.
