Into The Woods wins Best Musical Revival

Published 13 March 2011

The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Into The Woods has been named Best Musical Revival at the 2011 Olivier Awards with MasterCard.

The fairytale musical, which features music and lyrics by this year’s Special Award winner Stephen Sondheim, found a perfect home in the leafy surroundings of the Open Air theatre, the towering trees giving the production, which was performed on a labyrinthine set of ladders and walkways, a backdrop delivered by nature.

The show, which gives an original spin to classic fairytales including Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, featured many of London’s leading musical performers, including Hannah Waddingham, Jenna Russell and Michael Xavier.

In winning the Olivier Award for Best Revival, Into The Woods beat fellow nominees Sweet Charity and Passion.
