McKintosh collects Costume prize for Crazy

Crazy For You’s Peter McKintosh has collected the 2012 Olivier Best Costume Design Award.

McKintosh’s brightly coloured outfits, decking out showgirls, cowboys and bankers, added to the verve and life on the stage of the Regent’s Park Open Air theatre, which revived Ken Ludwig’s Gershwin-tuned musical last summer.

McKintosh described the production as “the highlight of my career. Working in Regent’s Park is the most extraordinary, special experience.”

The experienced designer, whose credits also include current productions Noises Off and The 39 Steps, and recent shows Death And The Maiden, Luise Miller and Butley, was previously nominated in 2010 for his work on another Regent’s Park Open Air theatre musical, Hello, Dolly! On that occasion he lost out to Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner, the team behind the costumes for Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical.

This year’s runners-up in the Best Costume Design category include Rob Howell for Matilda The Musical, Tim Hatley for Shrek The Musical and Catherine Zuber for South Pacific.
