Oliviers announce 2013 dates

First Published 11 October 2012, Last Updated 12 October 2012

The 2013 Olivier Awards with MasterCard, the highlight of the UK theatre awards calendar, will be held in the sumptuous surroundings of the Royal Opera House on 28 April.

The slightly later date for next year’s ceremony enables shows opening up to Tuesday 5 March to be eligible for consideration as possible nominees for these most prestigious of stage awards.

The shows, performers and creatives whose work for the London stage has stood out above all others will be unveiled on 26 March, when the nominees for the 2013 Olivier Awards with MasterCard are revealed.

The 2013 awards mark the second year in succession that the coveted statuettes will be handed out at the Royal Opera House following 2012’s successful ceremony in which Matilda The Musical set a new record, winning in seven categories. Among the other highlights of this year’s awards were a live link up to New York, a production for the public in Covent Garden piazza and live performances by We Will Rock You featuring Brian May, Siobhan McCarthy, Maria Friedman and Elaine Paige. The night’s illustrious guests ranged from Olympic champion triple jumper Jonathan Edwards to film star James McAvoy and from TV star Zach Braff to recording artist and now star of the new production of Cabaret, Will Young.

Next year’s ceremony promises to be just as star-studded and packed with theatrical surprises. More information about what theatre fans can look forward to will be released in the new year.
