Olivier Awards with MasterCard

Details announced for Oliviers 2014

First Published 20 June 2013, Last Updated 20 June 2013

The Olivier Awards with MasterCard will take place on Sunday 13 April next year, when the coveted statuettes – as well as one new award – will be handed out to the very best productions, performers and creatives in London’s Theatreland.

The most highly anticipated event in the capital’s theatre awards calendar, the 2014 Olivier Awards will be held once again at the Royal Opera House, the iconic venue that has hosted the prestigious ceremony for the past two years.

Also announced today is the introduction of a new award category, Outstanding Achievement In Music, in which the composition of original music for plays, orchestration, and musical supervision/direction will be recognised.

Taking place slightly earlier than last year, the 2014 ceremony enables shows opening up to 25 February to be eligible for one of the prized statuettes, seven of which went to the National Theatre’s hit production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time at this year’s ceremony.

Highlights of 2013’s star-studded event included performances by former Wicked star Idina Menzel and her Glee co-star Matthew Morrison, guest appearances from current West End stars Daniel Radcliffe and Kim Cattrall, the return of the free Covent Garden Piazza event and performances from every musical nominated in the hotly contended Best New Musical Award.

While theatre fans will have to wait until the New Year to hear more about the 2014 awards, join in the conversation in the build-up on Twitter and Facebook.
